Green Vacation
We just got back from an amazing week at Savary Island in Beautiful British Columbia. We made a choice to have a green vacation. We stayed local. We packed light. We didn’t fly. We did drive but we left our car behind in Lund. We used bikes, a bike trailer and our feet to do most of our explorations around the island. We used solar power (Savary Island is “off-the-grid” most cabins are powered by a combination of solar, wind and generators. More info on our little cabin can be found here.) We watched our water use as all water is drawn from a well and filling the two 40L tanks was the only time we used our back-up generator. We left the computers, tv, etc at home and were entertained daily by eagles, hawks, deer, numerous other birds and an amazing variety of sea life. We were very conscious of producing as little garbage as possible as we had to take it off the island with us. We had a great time and would go back in a heart beat!
